Gary Oldman   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: entertainmentnewsonline
The surprise Oscar nomination received by Gary Oldman for his performance in British spy thriller Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy comes as an overdue recognition of one of the world's most gifted actors. In a career that has spanned more than 30 years Oldman has proved himself again and again to be an actor of immense power and intelligence in films as diverse as Immortal Beloved, State of Grace and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
Born in LondonImage By: Jasminhunter_Photography in 1958 Oldman spent much of his early career in theatre before his role in 1986's Sid and Nancy announced him as a major movie talent. Oldman's portrayal of Sid Viscous the ill-fated, heroin addicted bass player of punk group The Sex Pistols was widely praised (though the movie was not) for its stunning, bleak authenticity.
Oldman moved to Hollywood in the early nineties and soon established himself as the number one go-to guy for big budget American movies who were in need of a great villain. Roles in Dracula, Leon, True Romance, Murder in the First, The Fifth Element and Air Force One all proved one thing: when you wanted a charismatic bad guy, there were few others who could deliver like Gary Oldman. Yet there was always much more to Oldman than just scenery chewing villainy. In fact he is also a terrific director as he proved with his emotional, semi-autobiographical 1997 film Nil By Mouth. That film (which Oldman also wrote) was acclaimed across the board and won a host of awards including a BAFTA for Best British Film. Since then Oldman has put in memorable performances in Christopher Nolan's Batman series, The Hughes Brothers' The Book of Eli and, of course, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.
Will Oldman get the nod for this year's best actor award? Well he certainly isn't the pundits' favourite, most of them tipping The Artist's Jean Dujardin to take home the prize. Whatever happens at the Oscars, however, it won't change Oldman's status as one of the most interesting cinema performers of our time.

Leonardo Di Caprio   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: entertainmentnewsonline
Leonardo Di Caprio's performance in Clint Eastwood's J.Edgar is the latest in a long line of acclaimed lead turns from the American star. Taking on the title role of J.Edgar Hoover the highly controversial head of the FBI between 1935 and 1972, Di Caprio proves once again his ability to bring sympathy and humanity to potentially difficult characters.Image By: Chaubaby
Di Caprio has come a long way since he first appeared on screen in the straight to video horror flick Critters 3 way back in 1991. The big break for Di Caprio would come in the following year when screen legend Robert De Niro hand-picked the then 18 year old actor to take the lead role opposite De Niro in This Boy's Life. Di Caprio won great plaudits for that performance as he did for his performance opposite Johnny Depp in 1993's What's Eating Gilbert Grape? It was, however, his roles in two movies in 1996 and 1997 which would turn Di Caprio from a promising young actor to an icon of his age.
The first of these was Baz Luhrman's Romeo + Juliet, a high octane re-telling of Shakespeare's timeless romance set in modern Venice Beach. The second was James Cameron's Titanic which went on to become the highest grossing film of all time. These two films won Di Caprio the plaudits of critics and the hearts of young girls across the globe, and soon he was on every magazine cover and gossip column in print.
At this point Di Caprio was at a crossroads. He could continue with commercially solid box-office fodder and remain Hollywood's pretty boy or he could bring his huge talent to more difficult, potentially risky films. Since then his choice of work indicates which path he took.
Roles in Woody Allen's Celebrity, Martin Scorsese's The Departed, Sam Mendes' Revolutionary Road and Christopher Nolan's Inception have shown us where Di Caprio is most comfortable – working with top class directors making films which are challenging, insightful, innovative pieces of work. A genuine screen icon who picks projects based on director and quality as opposed to potential profit, Di Caprio has risen from being a teen heart throb to become a true giant of the silver screen.

Profile: Rooney Mara   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: entertainmentnewsonline
Since the release of the film-version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (based on the bestselling book of the same name), many people are intrigued to learn more about the film’s leading actress Rooney Mara.
Critics believed that the producers of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo were taking a risk by casting a relatively unknown actress in the lead role of Lisbeth Sander, instead of one of Hollywood’s better known stars, such as Natalie Portman. But it seems the critics now have pie on their faces as the film has done incredibly well at the box office and Mara is quickly becoming a household name and went on to win a Golden Globe nomination for the role in 2012.
Mara, born in New York in 1985, only started acting when she attended university - graduated from New York University in 2010 with a degree in international relations and psychology - where she had roles in student films. Her first led role in a movie was in Tanner Hall which filmed in 2007. In 2010 she played the lead role in the remake of the classic movie, A Nightmare on Elm Street.
The movie did not do well at the box office, but it did lead to bigger and better things for the young actress as she received the role of the university student who dumps the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg in the box office hit The Social Network. Not only did the movie do well in terms of ticket sales, but it also won an Oscar Award for Best Picture. The Social Network was the first time that she worked with director David Fincher, who hired her to ply the lead role in ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’.
Not only is she a great actress, but she is also charitable as she founded the charitable organisation of Faces of Kibera which provides food, medical care and other essentials to orphans in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya.

Heigl’s Style   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: entertainmentnewsonline
Hollywood superstar Katherine Heigl appreciates clothes. Long To mirror Katherine’s style, keep fuss to a minimum. Tasteful fabrics drape her figure with smooth, graceful lines. Omit severely patterned fabrics and think fusion, not blocking. Skirts and dresses accentuate height, drawing the eye down a seemingly endless trail, while deeper necklines sit perfectly against an elongated décolletage.
Clothes needn’t be figure hugging to cling to a woman’s curves. Fabrics with a wispy lightness help silhouette the body’s shape without distastefully adhering to it. Silks, cotton-bamboo blends, voiles, chiffons and georgettes all perform dutifully in achieving that classic hourglass shape. Incorporate floaty pieces into a wardrobe of comfortable jeans and luxuriously soft cashmere cardigans.
Always classy, dressing in white gives a clean look. Don’t be afraid to maximize the imposition of white into a wardrobe - let it contrast with a navy cardigan, pair it with a floral skirt or shorts, and try wearing a tailored man’s dress shirt. The femininity of white is timeless, be it opaque or translucent.
Liberate the hair from those girly accessories and keep it moving and uninhibited, let it fall and tousle a little. Katherine’s short, fuss free hair lengthens her neck and is in perfect proportion to her slender body, making her appear taller. Choose a cut that not only complements your face but your whole body.
Choose handbags wisely. Katherine has an array of them that she uses to accompany her outfits. Opt for the larger sized totes rather than the daintier clutches; they’ll ooze that effortless ‘casual and relaxed’ chic.
Keep jewellery to a minimum. Don’t fuss with chains upon chains, and big, gaudy rings and earrings - just keep it simple and elegant with a key statement piece or simply beautifully bare skin.
Have a few structured jackets that can be worn with jeans, and a couple of glitzy sleeveless dresses - Katherine favours the one shoulder type. Finally, invest in some versatile boots, flats and heels – and you’re well on your way to walking the red carpet!

Miley Ray Cyrus   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: entertainmentnewsonline
A beautiful southern girl, raised as a Southern Baptist is coming into her own. She started her life (as Destiny Hope Cyrus) living on a farm, surrounded by the great outdoors. Her father is Billy Ray Cyrus, best known for his hit single: “Achey Breaky Heart”, that's obviously where her beautiful voice comes from. But, she's more than a singer, she's also an actress.Image By: Colourlessloveee
Miley's acting career started when she was twelve and she auditioned for the part of the best friend in, what became, Hannah Montana. After being asked to rather audition for the lead role, she was cast as Miley Stewart (renamed after her), a girl with a secret double life as a famous singer. At the age of 18, the fourth and final season of Hannah Montana began shooting.
As Miley takes her first steps into adulthood, she takes her career into her own hands. She doesn't seem sure about the direction she wishes to go in, but as a young adult, she has more than enough time to try out all her options to see which suits her best.
Her third album, Cant be Tamed, was said to be her last for now while she would focus on her acting career, but it seems that Miley can't see to pull herself away from the singing just yet as she plans to record a fourth album.
Cyrus embarked on her film career as an adult by starring in the film “The Last Song”, which showed a successful transition into adult roles for the talented, young actor. She intends to follow her dreams, remarking that she can always return to college when she's older, it's never too late to study. She says: “For right now, I really want to focus on my career. I've worked hard to get to where I am now, and I want to enjoy it while it lasts.”
Miley has lived an exciting life and the whole world waits with baited breath to see where her future leads her. As she steps into adulthood, will she rise to the challenge?
