'The Smurfs' Are On Their Way To 3D Cinema   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: entertainmentnewsonline

Columbia Pictures has unleashed the first still from "The Smurfs", revealing how some of the diminutive blue characters will be seen in the feature film.

Debuted by USA Today, the official photo gives a look Grouchy, Papa and Clumsy with the background of a sky scrapper in New York City. The first trailer for the movie, meanwhile, will come out via Yahoo on Thursday, June 17.

According to USA Today, the movie will open with scenes in which Gargamel discovers the Smurfs' magical village and scatters them into the woods. Director Raja Gosnell then reveals, "Unfortunately, Clumsy goes the wrong way into a forbidden grotto where a few other Smurfs follow. Because it's a blue moon, there's a magical portal that transports them to Central Park."

The Smurfs' effort to return home becomes more complicated as Gargamel pursues them. Later, Grouchy, Papa and Clumsy, along with Smurfette, Brainy as well as new character the brave-to-a-fault Gutsy, take refuge with a husband and a wife.

In this new take of the famous cartoon, the filmmakers decide not to describe Gargamel as someone who wants to eat the Smurfs. In the other hand, the villainous character only wants to capture the Smurfs to serve as charms, whose mystical essence will make his inept magic more powerful and dangerous.

Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara and Tim Gunn are cast to play live-action characters, with Hank Azaria portraying Gargamel. Meanwhile, providing their voices for the animated characters are Katy Perry, Jonathan Winters, George Lopez and Alan Cumming. This 3-D animation is slated to arrive in the U.S. on August 3, 2011.

The 10 Best Movie Celebs On Twitter   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: entertainmentnewsonline

Edgar Wright

Perhaps the most active film-director twitterer, the helmer of Hot Fuzz and the forthcoming comic book adaptation Scott Pilgrim vs The World has clocked up a remarkable 3,101 tweets at the time of writing, covering everything from the punishing editing schedule of Scott Pilgrim (“Still in the edit at 23.35. I am now half man, half Avid. All cop”), his infectious love of everything slightly geeky, keeping in contact with fellow film-fans, and some plain oddness (“Someone please get high, eat a lot of cheese, watch Elm Street, Furry Vengeance and Human Centipede as a triple bill and then report back”).

Kevin Smith

Ah, yes, Kevin – the tweeter that roared, after being ejected from an aircraft for having an ass too fat for the seat, and turning it, via Twitter, into an international incident.

A Twitter goliath with 1.6m followers, the indie filmmaker behind Clerks and (more recently, the much worse Cop Out) has found more fame online, notably engaging in a 24-hour Labour Day “tweetathon”.

Judd Apatow

A recent Twitter convert (he only joined in April), we’re putting Judd on our list more in hope than for previous twittering form.

So far, the comedy maestro behind The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up has let us know about his latest project (“Day two of writing my next film. Kicked some ideas around with Paul Rudd. Then downloaded music onto iPad for several hours”) and has been ever-willing to ask those questions we all want answers to, like: “Is the A-Team [movie] based on a specific episode of the show?”

Milla Jovovich

The zombie-bothering star of the Resident Evil franchise is notable for just how much twittering she manages to cram into her hectic days.

With over 3,000 tweets to date, and over a third of a million followers, expect several fun tit-bits from every film set she's working on (Milla has actually been in trouble more than once for giving key plot points away), and a stream-of-consciousness text-speak that's never short of an exclamation mark or 12.

Example: “Anyways! U guys rock! I'll b posting more once I get my situation more civilized over here. I hope u all hve a gr8 day/night wherever u r!!”

Armando Iannucci

With a new big-budget film in the works – reportedly a slapstick comedy with the working title of Out The Window – there's no better time than to start following the comedy genius behind In The Loop, The Thick Of It and The Day Today.

Can frequently be found musing on politics (“Breaking News: talks open on formation of Lab-Lib-Lady-Boy coalition”) and begrudgingly pimping his own stuff (“Series 3 of The Thick of It out on DVD next week. If you can take any more”).

Diablo Cody

One of the most endearing celeb twitters, the hip Oscar-winning writer of Juno, Jennifer's Body and hit TV series The United States of Tara, Cody can frequently be found musing on future projects (“I will find a way to get involved with this "Roller Coaster Tycoon" movie. Even if I have to work the food truck”), taking care to answer almost everyone that tweets her, and just being plain lovely (“Watching an arthritic 90 year-old woman slooooowly open her purse to help a homeless guy. Some people are born good”).

We admit it. NME has a little crush.

David Lynch

The reality-fiddling director - known for the surrealist masterpieces of Twin Peaks and Blue Velvet – brings a healthy dose of weird to Twitter, mixing meteorologist-level weather reports (“Here in LA, DARK, GREY, COLD, RAINING. 55°F, 13°C”) to pondering the Republicans moving away, and asking his followers to admire the “virtual fireplace lamp” he made over the weekend (“thank you for the kind words on the lamp,” he later tweeted).

Matthew Perry

Thankfully, as funny – and dare we say it, a little funnier – than his on-screen alter-egos, the man-who-was-Bing keeps his followers updated on his latest sit-com Mr Sunshine, time spent out of work (“I watched playoff baseball for 11 straight hours today. It may be time for me to start thinking about getting a job. Go sox”), obsessive tweeting about Lost, and the perils of bad mid-flight films ("The Tooth Fairy is playing on my airplane. Four people have already walked out. They are of course now dead. Still, not a bad move").

Jon Favreau

Another relative new-boy, the Iron Man 2 director and former Swingers star is rapidly closing in on a cool million followers, taking great care to point his followers to the projects of Iron Man fanboys (linking recently to a piece titled ‘Top 10 things you don’t want to hear from a guy dressed as Iron Man’), giving thanks to people watching Iron Man (“Thanks for making us #1 two weeks in a row!”), and, erm, Iron Man trending on Twitter (“I don't believe it. Iron Man 2 is trending higher than Justin Bieber. Dreams really do come true!”).

We imagine he’ll start talking more about latest project, graphic novel adaptation Cowboys & Aliens, from now on.

William Shatner

We know! What could be better? Shatner! On Twitter!

Treating web 2.0 as if he's a Victorian gent sending affection letters to a grandson – signing off every tweet with “My best, Bill” – Shatner ranges between plugging unsold tickets for the Hollywood Charity Horse Show (what? There are some left??) to winding up old Star Trek chums (“Come out of 'retirement' @TheRealNimoy. I got an exciting record I’m working on. You’d be perfect to add another voice to it. My best, Bill"), and even cracking the odd gag (“By the way, my wife owns the rights to my pouty face. My best, Bill”).

But best is the news that Shatner is going meta, having just been confirmed to star in a sit-com called Bleep My Dad Says, where he will play a cranky father whose rants are captured by a Twitter-obsessed son with a million followers.

This could get very strange.

Is Coppola Doing A Second 'Lost In Translation'?   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: entertainmentnewsonline

Filmmaker Sofia Coppola seems to return to familiar grounds in the upcoming 'Somewhere' and it sure looks good.

The film, the trailer for which was released on Monday, re-examines themes explored in her 2003 Bill Murray-Scarlett Johansson hit 'Lost in Translation.'

But this time we're in L.A., not Tokyo, and the man-woman dynamic is decidedly different.

Here the focus is on Stephen Dorff, who plays haggard Hollywood star whose emotional stupor is shaken by a young lady.

The young lady is Elle Fanning (Dakota's younger sister), who plays his daughter who has suddenly reappeared in his life.

When Coppola is at her best she's able to convey a sense of longing and isolation through her camera, and that's evident here.

Dorff and Fanning are captured in a series of hotel rooms, freeways and swimming pools.

Instead of the neon of the Tokyo night clouding perception as in 'Lost,' the light -- be it from the sun or the white wall of a hotel room -- obscures here, leaving one unbalanced and unsure.

Julian Casablancas' 'I'll Try Anything Once' -- which features just the singer and an electric piano -- nicely frames the trailer.

Sure, there seems to be lots similarities between 'Somewhere' and Coppola's breakthrough 'Lost.' But heck, John Ford revisited themes and no one seemed to mind.

Debra Granik About The Saga In The Ozarks   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: entertainmentnewsonline

When Manhattanite Debra Granik read the Ozark thriller "Winter's Bone" she fell in love with it, but the idea of making a movie out of it terrified her.

The movie is all about Missouri mountain culture, and as a stranger to it, Granik (a neorealist obsessed with credible detail) didn't want to get details wrong, or to condescend, accidentally or on purpose.

"Oh, God, big red flag! Number one reason not to do the project, for sure. I couldn't say yes until I sat down and met with Daniel Woodrell," said Granik.

"Just reading the book, it was impossible for me to know whether the things he was writing about were contemporary, for instance, or slightly dated. So I needed to talk with him, and needed to see things for myself," she said.

Soaking in the culture, looking at it without judging it, was job No. 1.

"Certainly I had to check my preconceived, liberal notions about hunting at the door," Granik said.

"Winter's Bone," a very faithful adaptation of the book, is about an Ozark teen named Ree (Jennifer Lawrence) trying desperately to find her missing father, who's skipped out on a bail bond and has posted their house as collateral.

Ree is the de facto head of the family, which means she has to teach her little brother how to survive (shooting and cooking) in case she doesn't return - dad's gone missing amid the guarded, violent meth-cooking economy that's taken root in her part of Missouri.

If the setting intimidated Granik, the story's plucky heroine entranced her.

Granik, who directed "Down to the Bone," the obscure indie that helped make Vera Farmiga a star, naturally gets a lot of scripts about young women, and they tend to be of a piece.

"You get a lot of scripts about young women who are almost pathologically wishy-washy," said Granik, rolling her eyes.

"I don't know what that's all about. I think it's an American phenomenon. We have so many stories about pathology, people suffering some kind of personal trauma that shapes them, something they have to overcome on their way to redemption."

Ree, on the other hand, was pure action, pure determination, pure spunk. She has every reason to feel sorry for herself, and never does.

"The girl has moxie. It's what animates her, and helps her navigate this very dangerous terrain she finds herself in."

For Granik, the danger was in getting the people wrong, so she relied on location research to keep credibility high.

She took heaps of documentary photos and video to create the right look, and found some natural human resources - an Ozark "renaissance man" named Richard Michael.

"He's very deeply enamored of the land, knows its caves and its secrets, its geological past. And he knows the people."

He made introductions to locals who were often eager to help.

Granik even had her cast and crew exchange garments with residents, so the duds seen on screen would show the appropriate wear.

This sounds like a Preston Sturges scenario about yokels turning the tables on slickers, not that Granik would mind, if it helped her movie.

"We were basically just coordinators, just pulling all of the stuff together, all of the local input. That was the basis for everything, and without it, there's no movie."

How A Picture Of Miley Cyrus   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: entertainmentnewsonline

Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton is creating a stir after he posted photos of pop singer Miley Cyrus that allegedly showed her vagina.

The paparazzi photo shows Cyrus getting out of a vehicle in a white dress.Hilton published one of the photos to his Twitter feed Sunday, but it was quickly taken down.

While it's true other celebrities have been photographed in the same situation — such as Britney Spears and Paris Hilton — Cyrus, 17, is a minor.

The website Salon.com said Hilton's tweet said, "If you are easily offended, do NOT click here." Jeffrey Douglas, a Los Angeles criminal defence attorney who specializes in child pornography cases, told Salon.com that Hilton's liability is "extraordinary and intense" because he distributed the photo and that it was "suicidal for him to do this."

People.com questioned Hilton's decision to tweet the photo.

"Hilton is facing widespread outrage, and possibly legal trouble, for posting an apparently explicit paparazzi shot of Miley Cyrus taken when the pop star was climbing out of a car," the website says.

"Reaction to his posting of the image – which People.com will not reproduce, even in a censored form – has been swift and damning, with Tuesday's morning talk shows full of anger and recrimination at Hilton. What remains to be seen is whether it was not just a poor decision but a criminal one."

CBS also reported that police might consider the image child pornography.

But Hilton doesn't seem to be taking the controversy seriously.

In a video on his website, he poses in a fake fur jacket and not wearing pants and calls it a "fake controversy" thought up by the media.

He questions why anyone would believe Cyrus would be in public without underwear on.

"Sure I may nickname her slutty Cyrus, but she's not a moron," he said between shots of Cyrus' new video for I Can't Be Tamed. "And also, do you think I'm stupid enough to post a photo of Miley if she's not wearing any underwear down there? No."

He says he likes to be controversial, "but I don't want to go to jail."

He said other photos showed the pop singer was "clearly wearing underwear” – the reason he chose the photo he did was because she was exiting the vehicle "in a very unladylike fashion."

He posted another photo Tuesday afternoon showing "proof" Cyrus was wearing underwear.

The photo, which included a pink circle around Cyrus' hips, does barely show an outline of underwear under her white dress, but also shows her outside of the vehicle.

Hilton, who is known for putting rude words or drawings on photos of celebrities, is no stranger to controversy.

Last year after the MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto, Hilton was allegedly punched by Black Eyed Peas manager Liborio (Polo) Molina after Hilton reported called group member will.i.am. gay and shouted derogatory terms at him.

Molina was charged with assault, but that was lifted in November by a Toronto court.

Keira Knightley And Carey Mulligan Kiss   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: entertainmentnewsonline

British beauties Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan have shot an intimate love scene for their upcoming film 'Never Let Me Go'.

The film based on the novel by British author Kazuo Ishiguro sees the young actresses, both 24, play friends who end up having a passionate affair.

Mulligan and Knightley, both Academy Award nominated actresses, first starred together in the 2005 movie Pride And Prejudice.

Their latest film tells the story of three children, Ruth, Tommy and Kathy, who grow up together after attending the same boarding school.

But the kiss between the two actresses is not the only one in the film as Knightley and Mulligan both also share moments of passion with Andrew Garfield, who plays their friend Tommy.

While they have only starred alongside each other once before, Mulligan credits Knightley for being her acting coach while they were on the set of Pride And Prejudice.

"I was a real tomboy until was 15. I didn't have my first kiss until a month away from being 16. So I just copied everything Keira did for weeks. She is still amazing to me," said the actress.

Marisa Tomei About Her New Movie 'Cyrus'   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: entertainmentnewsonline

Marisa Tomei, who received an Oscar for her performance as a brash, Brooklyn-based car expert in the 1992 comedy My Cousin Vinny, says she specifically shied away from comedies after winning the Academy Award — even though she was offered several choice roles.

"I knew that I was most interested in a variety of characters," she tells Fresh Air contributor Dave Davies. "It wasn't in contrast to, 'Oh, I don't want to play this, because I want to get away from this image.' It was more: What else is out there? I'm curious."

After starring in movies such as Slums of Beverly Hills, Alfie and Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, Tomei was again nominated for Oscars:

In 2001, for her portrayal of a domestic abuse victim in Todd Field's emotional family drama In the Bedroom, — and her memorable portrayal of a washed up stripper opposite Mickey Rourke in 2007's The Wrestler.

Tomei's latest film, Cyrus, again deals with the intricacies of family life.

She plays a single woman with an unusually close relationship with her 21-year-old son Cyrus, played by Jonah Hill.

When she falls in love, she must balance the relationship she has with her new boyfriend, played by John C. Reilly, and the one she has with Cyrus.

Tomei says though the relationship between mother and son is unusual, she didn't judge her character ahead of time.

"I wasn't reading it going, 'Oh, this is really unhealthy. How am I going to play this unhealthy person?' " she says.

"And so I approached it in the sense that they're great friends. They have a great relationship. They truly enjoy each other's company, and they've lived a very artsy and more bohemian kind of life. And they laugh well together. So I just saw it as more really great friends. And that part of it is really healthy."

Megan Fox Doubts   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: entertainmentnewsonline

Hollywood starlet Megan Fox has revealed she pretends she is more attractive than she is.

The actress is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful stars in Hollywood and often tops polls of the world's sexiest women.

However, Megan has claimed she is often left disappointed when she sees photographs of herself.

"I don't think I'm hideous or unattractive," she told Extra during a junket for her new film Jonah Hex. "I just like to pretend in my mind I'm more attractive than I am, so seeing pictures confirms I'm wrong."

Megan plays a gun-wielding prostitute in the action-packed western alongside Josh Brolin.

The 24-year-old star enjoyed playing Lilah, the love interest of Josh's character, because the feisty character is so far removed from her true self.

"I do like playing that because it's nothing like what I actually am. I'm actually really vulnerable," Megan explained.

Josh was full of praise for Megan during the junket, saying he was impressed by her professional attitude on the set of the movie and her stable personal life.

He also went on to defend her following her recent departure from the third instalment of the Transformers franchise.

"She's not out drinking, going to rehab and doing all those things,"

Josh said. "Once in a while someone will say something that is so exploited and blown out of proportion that it makes us as readers perceive her as something that she's not."

Peter Jackson To Direct 'The Hobbit'?    [Report Abuse]

Posted by: entertainmentnewsonline

It's been a bit of a bumpy week or two for the planned movie adaptations of The Hobbit, with the year-long shoot to make the pair of films from the book still hunting for a director.

That was after Guillermo del Toro finally walked away from the project, with the constant delays caused by the financial frailty of MGM and its search for the buyer at the heart of his frustrations.

Both MGM and Warner Bros, the studios funding the movie, have thus been spending the last week or two looking to find a suitable replacement, and names such as David Yates and Brett Ratner have been circulating in association with the project (yes, really).

But both Warner Bros and MGM are attempting to persuade Peter Jackson to return to the Middle Earth director's chair, and swap his producing and writing duties on The Hobbit for directing as well.

Deadline New York has reported that nobody has thus far been offered the director's chair on the Hobbit films yet, and that it looks like they won't be until the two studios have exhausted the chances of Peter Jackson doing the film.

Jackson doesn't seem to have said no at this stage, although we're filling in the gaps with speculation there.

He is clearly the logical choice, but whether he'll want to commit to such a mammoth undertaking again isn't clear.

For now, here's that story at Deadline. And if the plans remain to have The Hobbit before the cameras this year, then some decisions are going to have to be made really very soon...

Face Transplant For Kristen Stewart?   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: entertainmentnewsonline

Will Kristen Stewart undergo a face transplant to look cheerful ?

The American actress is under the criticism of her fans for having a sullen expression.

They prefer her to be more happier when they approach her.

Twilight star thinks of opting for a face transplant so that she can smile and look cheerful while meeting her fans.

Stewart admitted that it was pretty difficult for her to handle fame.

She also accepted the fact that she puts in her best to smile and look happy when strangers approach her, according to the reports of News.com.au

“I totally am more comfortable now. I try not to have that thing that people have which is like a celebrity skin and I think that's maybe where I run into problems,” Stewart said.

“I have had so many people say, ‘Why don’t you just play the part? Just like, go smile, talk about whatever they want you to talk about.’ It's like, ‘I do, I really try to do that.’ I guess I should get a face transplant or something… But it's gotten weird. I’ve like, relinquished control,” she added.

However, the 'Twilight Star's' speculation about going for a face transplant seems to have dropped.

“People are much better at doing this than I am and that's fine and I’m getting better and whatever, but I’m not gonna try to force myself to do anything,” Stewart said on a US TV show Access Hollywood.
